Take A Hike - Nike Missile Control Site la-96C - Led by Marc Hertz
Dating back to the Cold War, the site offers spectacular vistas both North and South. We'll walk 8/10 mile to the Nike Missile Control Site at the top of Mulholland Drive for vistas of the San Fernando Valley. Bring a camera, water and snacks. There are picnic tables, a water fountain and restrooms.
Note: Google maps labels the meeting place the Upper Canyonback trailhead.
From the East Valley:
Take Mulholland Drive West to the point where it seems to sharply drop off and becomes Encino Hills Drive. Just before Encino Hills Drive, you’ll turn left onto a dirt road. Follow it to the parking lot next to a metal water tank and a large gate across the dirt road. The dirt road is rutted; no sports cars!
From the West Valley:
Take Hayvenhurst Ave. south to Encino Hills Drive. Take Encino Hills Drive to the top. The street will be rather steep, but ends at Mulholland Drive where you'll turn right onto a dirt road. Follow it to the parking lot next to a metal water tank and a large gate across the dirt road. The dirt road is rutted; no sports cars!
